Tarsus is the birthplace of the Apostle Paul and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. A capital of Roman Cilicia, it was a university city in antiquity, the place where Cleopatra met Mark Antony, and the home town Paul names for himself in the Acts of the Apostles. The Roman street, the well beside the house traditionally held to be his family home, and the city gate still stand within a short walk of each other. Tarsus hosts St Paul Global Week each June, around the Feast of Saint Paul on 29 June.
