Turkey Visa for South Korean Citizens: Visa-Free Entry Explained

South Korean passport holders do not need a visa for short visits to Turkey. You can enter visa-free — but there is a time limit that catches travellers out. Here is how it works.

Turkey is a favourite with South Korean travellers — Istanbul, the Cappadocia balloon fields, the Aegean coast and Pamukkale all sit within reach of a direct flight from Incheon. Before booking, the question is always the same: do South Koreans need a visa for Turkey? The short answer is no. Ordinary Korean passport holders are visa-exempt for short tourist stays, so there is nothing to apply for and nothing to pay.

This guide explains, in plain language, how long you may stay, how the 90-days-in-180 rule is counted, what your passport must satisfy and why you should never pay a third-party site for an e-Visa you do not need. It is written for ordinary (tourist) passport holders travelling for tourism or short business.

Visa policy is set by the Turkish government and can change at short notice, so treat everything below as guidance and confirm the current requirements on the official portal before you book or travel.

Visa rules can change — always confirm current requirements on the official Republic of Türkiye e-Visa site (evisa.gov.tr) before travel. Fees and conditions below are approximate guidance, not a guarantee.

Do South Korean citizens need a visa for Turkey?

No. South Korean ordinary passport holders are exempt from the visa requirement for short visits and may enter Turkey without applying for anything in advance. There is no e-Visa to buy and no fee to pay. What you do need is a valid passport, a stay that fits inside the permitted window, and the usual evidence that you are a genuine visitor.

How long can you stay? The 90-days-in-180 rule

Visa-free entry allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. That second half matters: the allowance is not 90 days per visit, and it does not reset when you leave and come back. Officers count backwards from your arrival date and add up the days you have already spent in Turkey during the preceding 180 — if the total passes 90, you can be refused entry. If you want to stay longer than the exemption allows, that is outside visa-free travel: ask a Turkish consulate about the right visa or residence permit before you travel.

Do you need to apply for anything? (official portal evisa.gov.tr)

No application, no form, no payment. Because South Korea sits on Turkey's visa-exempt list, the e-Visa system does not apply to you — enter your nationality on the official Republic of Türkiye portal at evisa.gov.tr and it will tell you exactly that. It is worth the two-minute check before you book, because that portal is the single source of truth and it is free. Avoid third-party "visa" websites that offer to sell South Koreans a Turkey e-Visa: at best they charge you for nothing, at worst they collect your passport data.

Cost — what a South Korean passport pays

Nothing. Visa exemption means there is no visa fee for South Korean citizens, no e-Visa charge and nothing to pay on arrival. If a website quotes you a price for a "Turkey visa" as a Korean national, that is a red flag: it is billing you for a requirement your passport does not have, not collecting an official fee. Exemptions are set by the Turkish government and can be revised, so confirm your own nationality's status on evisa.gov.tr before you pay anyone anything.

Passport validity & when to check

Visa exemption does not mean your passport escapes scrutiny. Passport-validity requirements are set separately from the visa rules, and airlines apply their own checks at the gate — so travel on a passport with comfortable time left rather than one close to expiry. There is no processing time to allow for, but do check the official portal shortly before you fly.

Documents needed

There is no visa paperwork to prepare. Carry a valid ordinary passport and, in case you are asked, be ready to show a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Officers may ask for any of these, although in practice South Korean travellers are rarely delayed. If you hold a non-ordinary passport, or travel for anything beyond tourism and short business, check the official portal — different rules can apply.

At the airport

Present your Korean passport at passport control — there is no e-Visa to show and nothing to buy first. Officers stamp you in and may ask where you are staying, how long you intend to stay and when you fly home. Keep an eye on the date stamped in your passport: that date, not your plans, is what your 90 days are counted from.

Apply on the official portal

The only official place to apply is the Republic of Türkiye e-Visa portal. Avoid third-party sites that charge inflated fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do South Koreans need a visa for Turkey in 2026?

No. South Korean ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt and can enter Turkey for tourism without applying in advance. The exemption covers stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Longer stays, work or study fall outside it and must be arranged separately. Visa policy can change, so confirm your status on evisa.gov.tr before you travel.

How long can South Koreans stay in Turkey without a visa?

Up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The 180 days are a rolling window counted backwards from the day you arrive, so days spent on earlier trips inside that window still count against your 90. Leaving the country and coming back does not reset the clock.

Do South Korean citizens need a Turkey e-Visa?

No. The e-Visa exists for nationalities who require a visa; South Koreans are exempt, so there is nothing to apply for. Any site offering to sell you a Turkey e-Visa as a Korean citizen is selling you something you do not need.

How much does a Turkey visa cost for South Korean citizens?

Nothing. The exemption means there is no visa fee for a short tourist stay and no charge on arrival. If someone is asking you to pay, you are on a third-party site rather than the government one. Confirm free of charge on evisa.gov.tr.

What does 90 days in 180 days mean for Turkey?

It means that on any day you are in Turkey, the days you have spent there across the previous 180 must not exceed 90 in total. It is a rolling count, not a fresh allowance for each visit.

How long must my passport be valid to enter Turkey from Korea?

Passport-validity rules sit outside the visa rules, and airlines check them at the gate. Travel on a passport with comfortable time remaining and confirm the current requirement on evisa.gov.tr before booking.

Which website is the official one for the Turkey e-Visa?

Only evisa.gov.tr, the Republic of Türkiye government portal, is official. It is also where you can confirm, free, that South Koreans do not need a visa at all.
