Do Nepali citizens need a visa for Turkey?
Yes. Nepali passport holders require a visa to enter Turkey for any purpose, including tourism. There is no visa-free allowance for Nepali nationals and no visa-on-arrival counter for ordinary Nepali passports. Two routes exist: the online e-Visa, which is conditional rather than automatic, or a sticker visa from a Turkish embassy or consulate. Which of the two is open to you depends entirely on the supporting document described below.
e-Visa eligibility & conditions for Nepalis
The Turkey e-Visa is available to Nepali citizens on a conditional basis. To qualify, you must also hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen member state, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland, and your passport should generally be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. That supporting document does all the work here — without it there is no e-Visa route at all, whatever a third-party site may tell you. Where it is granted, the e-Visa is a single-entry permit issued for one month, for tourism and short business trips only.
If you do not hold a Schengen, USA, UK or Ireland visa
Then the e-Visa is closed to you, and the only remaining route is a sticker visa from a Turkish embassy or consulate — issued for a stay of up to 15 days rather than the 30 the e-Visa allows. This is the detail that catches Nepali travellers out: the portal will simply refuse the application, and an airline can deny you boarding on a visa you never obtained. If you want longer than a fortnight in Turkey, settle the supporting-visa question before you book flights you cannot change.
How to apply (official e-Visa portal evisa.gov.tr)
Apply only through the official Republic of Türkiye portal at evisa.gov.tr. Select Nepal as your country, enter your passport and travel details, and confirm the supporting visa or residence permit you are relying on — the portal applies the eligibility rules for you and will say plainly whether the e-Visa is open to you or whether you must approach a Turkish mission. Pay the fee online by card and receive the approved e-Visa by email as a PDF. Print it or keep it on your phone for check-in and immigration. Avoid third-party "visa" websites that charge inflated service fees — the government site is the only official source.
Cost, validity & processing time
The e-Visa fee is nationality-specific and is shown only in the apply flow at evisa.gov.tr, so no figure is quoted here — check the amount on screen before paying, and treat prices published elsewhere as unreliable. Where it is granted, the conditional e-Visa is single entry and issued for one month, allowing a stay of up to 30 days; the sticker-visa alternative is shorter, at up to 15 days. Approval is usually quick, often within minutes to a few hours, though it can occasionally take up to 24–48 hours, so apply a few days before you fly. A consulate sticker visa typically takes several working days or more. Always check the validity printed on your own approved visa.
Documents needed
For the Nepali e-Visa you will generally need: a passport valid for at least six months beyond arrival; the valid supporting visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, the USA, the UK or Ireland; a payment card; and basic travel details. Immigration may also ask to see a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds, so keep your hotel booking and itinerary handy.
At the airport
On arrival in Turkey, present your passport together with your approved e-Visa — printed or on your phone — and the supporting visa or residence permit you qualified with. Officers may ask about your hotel, length of stay and return flight. With your documents in order, clearance is usually quick. Keep both accessible until you have cleared immigration.
Apply on the official portal
The only official place to apply is the Republic of Türkiye e-Visa portal. Avoid third-party sites that charge inflated fees.
