Do Namibian citizens need a visa for Turkey?
Yes. Namibian passport holders require a visa to enter Turkey for any purpose, including tourism. Turkey is not visa-free for Namibian nationals travelling on an ordinary passport. Since May 2025 there are two routes: the online e-Visa, which is faster but comes with the supporting-document condition covered below, or a sticker visa obtained from a Turkish embassy or consulate. Either way, arrange it before you fly.
e-Visa eligibility & conditions for Namibians
Ordinary Namibian passport holders became eligible for the Turkey e-Visa on 5 May 2025, but the evidence points to a conditional e-Visa rather than an open one. To qualify you generally must already hold a valid visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States. Another country's e-Visa is explicitly not accepted as that supporting document — a US ESTA or a similar online authorisation will not make you eligible. It need only be valid on the date you enter Turkey, not for your whole stay. Where granted, the permit is single entry and allows up to 30 days within any 180-day period. Namibia's access is recent and the official pages state the eligibility without spelling out the duration, so verify your own case in the apply flow at evisa.gov.tr — select Namibia and your passport type — before you buy a ticket.
The airline rule: how you must fly in
There is a second condition that has nothing to do with your paperwork. Entry on the conditional e-Visa is generally restricted to airlines holding a protocol with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs — in practice Turkish Airlines and Pegasus. Arriving on another carrier can mean being turned back even with an approved e-Visa in hand. Check the carrier condition in the apply flow before you book flights, and route yourself through an airline that qualifies.
How to apply (official e-Visa portal evisa.gov.tr)
Apply only through the official Republic of Türkiye portal at evisa.gov.tr. Select Namibia as your country and choose your passport type, and the portal will show you the conditions that apply — read that screen carefully, because it is the authoritative statement of the rules for your case. Enter your passport and travel details, confirm the supporting visa or residence permit, pay the fee online by card, and receive the approved e-Visa by email as a PDF. Print it or keep it on your phone for check-in and immigration. Avoid third-party "visa" websites that charge inflated service fees — the government site is the only official source.
Cost, validity & processing time
The e-Visa fee is nationality-specific and is shown only inside the apply flow at evisa.gov.tr, so no figure is quoted here — check the amount on screen before paying, and treat any price advertised by an agency as marked up. Where granted, the permit is single entry, allowing a stay of up to 30 days within any 180-day period; the official pages do not spell the duration out, so confirm it on your own approved e-Visa rather than relying on this page. Approval is usually quick — often within minutes to a few hours, though it can occasionally take up to 24–48 hours — so apply at least a few days before you fly. A sticker visa from a consulate typically takes several working days or more.
Documents needed
For the Namibian e-Visa you will generally need: a passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date; the valid supporting visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, Ireland, the UK or the USA that qualifies you; a payment card; and basic travel details. Immigration may also ask to see a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds, so keep your hotel booking and itinerary handy.
At the airport
On arrival in Turkey, present your passport together with your approved e-Visa, printed or on your phone, and the supporting visa or residence permit you qualified with — carry it with you, do not leave it at home. Officers may ask about your hotel, length of stay and return flight. Because the permit is single entry, it is used up once you are stamped in.
Apply on the official portal
The only official place to apply is the Republic of Türkiye e-Visa portal. Avoid third-party sites that charge inflated fees.
