Do Egyptian citizens need a visa for Turkey?
Yes. Egyptian passport holders require a visa to enter Turkey for any purpose, including tourism. Turkey is not visa-free for Egyptian nationals, and there is no visa-on-arrival counter for ordinary Egyptian passports. The two routes are the online e-Visa — open to most travellers, subject to the age and airline conditions set out below — or a sticker visa obtained from a Turkish embassy or consulate in Egypt.
e-Visa eligibility & conditions for Egyptians
The Turkey e-Visa is available to Egyptian citizens on a conditional basis, and the condition depends on your age. Ordinary passport holders under 15 or over 45 can obtain the e-Visa with no additional requirement. Travellers aged 15 to 45 must meet two conditions together: you must hold a valid Schengen, United States, United Kingdom or Ireland visa or residence permit, and you must travel to Turkey on Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, Egypt Air or Air Cairo. Both apply at once — a Schengen visa on its own is not enough, and booking any other carrier voids your e-Visa eligibility even if your paperwork is perfect. If you cannot meet both, apply for a sticker visa through a Turkish consulate instead.
How to apply (official e-Visa portal evisa.gov.tr)
Apply only through the official Republic of Türkiye portal at evisa.gov.tr. Select Egypt as your country, enter your passport and travel details, confirm your supporting visa or residence permit and your airline if you fall in the 15 to 45 band, pay the fee online by card, and receive the approved e-Visa by email as a PDF. Print it or keep it on your phone to show at check-in and immigration. Avoid third-party "visa" websites that charge inflated service fees — the government site is the only official source.
Cost & validity
For Egyptian citizens the e-Visa is a single-entry permit that allows a stay of up to 30 days within a 180-day period. The fee is nationality-specific and is not published as a headline figure for Egypt — the exact amount is shown only inside the application flow at evisa.gov.tr, once you have entered your details. Treat any price quoted elsewhere as unreliable and check the figure on the official site before you pay. Always check the dates printed on your own approved e-Visa.
Processing time
The e-Visa is usually approved quickly, often within minutes to a few hours, though it can occasionally take up to 24–48 hours. Apply at least a few days before you fly to allow for any delay. A sticker visa from a consulate takes longer — typically several working days or more — so plan ahead if the e-Visa route is not open to you.
Documents needed
For the Egyptian e-Visa you will generally need: an ordinary passport with sufficient remaining validity; if you are aged 15 to 45, the valid supporting visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, USA, UK or Ireland together with a booking on Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, Egypt Air or Air Cairo; a payment card; and basic travel details. Immigration may also ask to see a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds, so keep your hotel booking and itinerary handy.
At the airport
On arrival in Turkey, present your passport with your approved e-Visa (printed or on your phone) and, if you are aged 15 to 45, the supporting visa or residence permit you qualified on. Expect the same check at departure in Egypt — that is usually where an ineligible booking is caught. Officers may ask about your hotel, length of stay and return flight.
Apply on the official portal
The only official place to apply is the Republic of Türkiye e-Visa portal. Avoid third-party sites that charge inflated fees.
