Most of the original Greek population left in the 1923 population exchange, and the houses that remain today have largely been restored as guesthouses, small shops and wine terraces rather than left as a museum piece.
The village has built its reputation around its local fruit wines — pomegranate, blackberry, quince and others alongside the more familiar grape — sold and tasted at small stands and terraces along the main lanes. It is unapologetically touristy in the middle of the day, when tour buses arrive from Ephesus and Kuşadası, but the crowds thin quickly once the last coaches leave in the late afternoon, and the village at that hour, with its lanes empty and the light going gold over the vineyards, is a different and much better experience.

There is little in the way of formal sights beyond this — the appeal of Şirince is the walk itself, the architecture and the surrounding terraced vineyards and olive groves, best appreciated over a slow lunch on a vine-shaded terrace rather than a rushed hour between bus stops.

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the most pleasant seasons, with comfortable walking temperatures and, in autumn, the grape and pomegranate harvest under way. Summer is hot but tolerable given the hillside elevation, which keeps it a little cooler than the coast. Visit early morning or, better, from late afternoon onward, once the day-trip tour buses from Ephesus and Kuşadası have left — the village is noticeably quieter and more atmospheric outside the midday rush. Winter is very quiet, with some shops and wine stands closed.
How to get to Şirince
The gateway is Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), about 80 km away, with a private transfer of roughly an hour and a quarter combining the drive to Selçuk and on up into the hills. Şirince itself is only about 8 km from Selçuk, a drive of 15–20 minutes, which makes it a natural add-on to an Ephesus visit rather than a standalone journey. There is no rail or scheduled transfer directly to the village, so a transfer, tour or hire car from Selçuk or Izmir is the practical way in.

A handful of restored Greek stone houses in the village itself operate as small guesthouses, and staying overnight is the best way to experience Şirince once the day-trip crowds have gone, with quiet evenings on a terrace looking over the valley. Most visitors, however, treat Şirince as a half-day excursion from Selçuk, which sits close by and offers a wider choice of places to stay along with easy access to Ephesus.
