Pergamon was the capital city of Kingdom of Pergamon from the 3rd to 2nd century BCE and in the Roman period it was the first capital of the Asia Minor.
Since 2014, Pergamon is in World Heritage List of UNESCO. The Acropolis of the city is home to the great temple of Roman Emperor Trajan, the steepest theatre of the ancient world, the temple of Dionysus, the Gymnasium situated on terraces, the agora, and Roman aqueducts.
It became the centre of art and scholarship by housing the second largest library of the ancient world. As well as being one of the most impressive cultural center of the Hellenistic Era, Pergamon has an important place in Early Christian history.
